Writers: Do you prefer to write or type your books/stories?

-I prefer typing because the computer tells me when I make mistakes, it's neater, and there's basically no way to lose the writing, but of course there are some times when there isn't a computer nearby so I write any ideas in a notebook.I do both, but I start by hand-writing everything. I can type pretty fast so I feel like things are too rushed when I'm writing on the computer and I'm not putting enough thought into it. When I'm writing by hand, I'm forced to think about literally every word I put down, especially because I'm using pen. I agree with you that writing on the computer is neater -- a little bit of me dies every time I make a mistake on the paper. However, first drafts don't really need to be "neat" -- that's the whole point of them. Once I've got a chapter or so written in my notebook, I'll go get on the computer and type it out, editing as I go. That way, the typed story is already like my second draft.

If I come up with a part that I want to include later in the story but I haven't gotten to it yet, I'll go ahead and type it out and then save it somewhere where I can find it again when it's time.
Typing is definitely the better option for me. Every time I write a sentence or a paragraph I always end up striking off the entire thing and spit out something better. If I were writing I would be wasting a lot of pages and the earth's already having enough trouble yes? Besides, seeing lots of slashes and cuts totally turns off my writing mood. If its on my word processor, it'll always appear clean and if I feel what I wrote earlier was good enough I won't have to type it out all over again (just a simple Ctrl+Z does the trick!) Like you said, the computer points out my mistakes and if ever I have a lack of words or don't know the meaning of something our the use of a certain word in different contexts the internet helps me find the answer in a way which is less annoying than heaving my dictionary out of my cupboard and going through the 1000+ pages.
Typing no doubt.

1) I'm a computer nerd . . . so I spend a lot of my free time on it anyway

2) It's a lot more organised and it's harder to lose computer files

3) It's more private on a computer

4) I'd have to spend too much time making sure I can read my (terrible) handwriting if I did it by hand

5) I think faster than I write (by hand). I wouldn't be able to get all my ideas out fast enough on paper
I prefer writing in a notebook desicated only to the current story I'm working on. After I'm finished with the story I pass it on to the computer, that way if anything happens to my computer I still have my story.
I type them as I'm continuously going back to alter things or to do corrections as I work. I used to write in notebooks when I was travelling but I've now bought myself a little netbook so I can type while I travel too.
Computer is more efficient but writing by hand makes you feel the characters!
Same:) Plus, if you write it you just have to type it anyways. (P.S. I love the nyan cat avatar)
My fingers can keep up with my head, so I prefer typing. If I write in with a pen I never get my ideas out fast enough.
Typing its a lot easier and it can give u more time to think than to write
type. I cant write a story because ill get lazy and never finish
