-i'm writing some blogs and i need to know if i copy and paste something from a site, then edit it, paraphrase it, and add my own things, do i have to cite it? If it's no longer recognizable as the original writing? how would anyone know and could i get into trouble?Yes, because technically your paraphrasing it. If it's not common knowledge or your personal opinion you cite it. (I personally would rather over cite than not cite enough, you don't want to risk plagerism:)Ask yourself this: "Would I feel like total sh*t if someone lifted my work and edited to make it theirs even though the thoughts and ideas came from me?"
If your answer is yes, then don't even think of doing what you're doing. I read blogs from time to time and I'd immediately lose interest if I knew the writer had no original thoughts of their own. Bloggers are a feisty group as has been demonstrated with a few cases I'm aware of and if you're caught lifting another's work and tweaking it to make it your own you'll be in a sh*tload of trouble.
Have some courtesy and respect for the original writers by not lifting their work and cleverly editing the writing. Either come up with your own material for the blogs or don't bother writing them.|||Well....it depends. You need to find someone to be the judge of that, if it's "no longer recognizable as the original." Like a lawyer.|||Yes, you still need to site it, because you didn't come up with every word, you basically summarized the info in your own words.|||Yes, because you are still using their information as a basis for your work.|||yes|||no you do not|||huh.........i don't get it
