Which is better as the main characters? 2 boys or 2 girls? would you care?

-Ok I know I keep asking questions like these! But I'm just doing some research to see which character dynamics people react the best to. Some people say 2 girls would be annoying but others say 2 boys would be boring.

So would you rather read a story (particularly a comic) about 2 girls or 2 boys? Does it matter to you?I would think that it could be exciting or boring no matter what you choose. The only thing that really matters is how developed the characters are; that's the main thing you should be worrying about.i personally like reading about boys more (in fact the book i'm reading right now is called "the things a brother knows" so obviously it's about guys :p) because i'm a girl and i don't want to read about girl problems because i live them! Also, most boys (or the ones i know at least) think that reading books with only girls in them (such as "the clique") makes them gay or something, like they'd get made fun of. however, the girls i know love reading about both, and girls won't get made fun of for reading books about dudes (like The Outsiders or something). i'm not saying every school or town works like that but it's how mine does. having said that, where i live, books about two boys would be more popular because both genders would read it. if it was about two girls, then it's only the girls who would read it.

but really, it's what you feel comfortable writing about. so good luck and happy writing :)
Well see the thing is I always write in female perspective because I am one. So.. I think one of each would appeal more but it doesn't really matter.. to me at least.

And since when are two girls boring? (best friends) in a story? I mean it wouldn't be lame just..it would be what girls would do.

But I recommend one of each JUST because then they could fall in love :)
I think that the only way to compromise would be a boy and a girl. I I know its obvious, but I would like that best and if that isnt and option then I'll say 2 girls. Hope this helepd :)
I'd rather read about 2 boys.

But, I think 1 boy and 1 girl would make the best combination.

I'm not sexist, by the way!
Well two girls, many people would turn away, thinking its going to be lame, 2 guys will appear better to an audience
I think 1 boy and 1 girl as friends and then at the end some romance blooms, kinda like Ron and hermione
how bout 1 girl, 1 boy?
Unless the material is directed towards a female audience, I would avoid two lead girls. It would be better to have a boy and a girl, as suggested above, or two boys.

Why?

Male audiences prefer male leads. Dunno why...maybe they're worried that the girl will start talking about her period or something. But that's how it works. Girls are less picky.

Two girls does sound annoying at first...and I'm a girl. Most of the books that I read are directed at the male-female audience, though, so I honestly can't say I've read a book or comic with two female leads. It's not something I'm interested in, but there's bound to be some sort of market for it. Unless there's nudity or the plot is wicked awesome, don't count on a large male fan-base.

If you want a mixed audience, best to do two guys or a guy and a girl. Guys are less likely to read a story if there is no male lead. Sometimes a girl is added, sometimes not. Many stories will have two males and one female; not only does this please both audiences, but it adds the chance of romance between characters (unless they're are related).

In summary, most stories use a combination of male/female leads. It is rare that you see just two boys or just two girls. Of all my early writing concepts (and I had many), there was only one single-female lead. Everything else included a male character. I don't think I'd ever write a story with two females leads. It's just not my taste.

So, yes, it does matter to me; it matters to many. But you shouldn't spend so much time asking people what they think. You write what works for you. At this stage in your life I doubt you're selling yourself out. Do what you want, enjoy the experience, and you'll be happy with yourself.
