What's your method of choosing new books?

-Do you only seek out literature within your comfort zone (e.g. vampires, fiction) or are you open-minded and pounce on every book you see recommended .In the past I have been too open-minded and have been lumped with crappy books that I wished I never bought.

When choosing, I always look up new books and, almost always, take a look at the reviews. If most of them say it's crap, cliched, boring etc, then I probably won't buy that new book.

I seek out any book with a great storyline (so as less cliches as possible), and one that doesn't have a lot of bad reviews. I read vampire, fiction, fantasy, sci-fi, gothic, teen, romance, comedy....just about every genre there is, so yes, open-minded in that.

I don't pounce on every book recommended, unless, like I said, the reviews aren't mostly low. I also go onto Amazon and type a book I like and it offers you suggestions based on that book as to what you might like. As well I click on the "Look Inside" and browse in there to see if it hooks me. Some did hook me and I was sold on that alone. Then I got the book and it turned out to be that the first chapter I read (and could only read) was the only chapter in the whole book worth reading. So even then you can't always judge the book.Their absolutely must be something in the book that at least sounds vaguely interesting. It doesn't matter at all to me if its considered the greatest book of the 21st-century, if not one bit of it appeals to me. So ya, I love vampire stories (like Interview with the Vampire and Sookie Stackhouse books), and most stories with some magical/mythical involvement (except books like twilight), but books like gossip girl seem a bit lame. Oh ya and plays are actually great to read - but those seem more reccommended to me or I wont pick them up - Like Midsummer Nights Dream - Awesome play.|||Well right know I only read fantasy, and usually I find myself drawn to books where the male main character is somewhat of a jerk but on the bottom he is a good guy (Patch in Hush Hush or Jace in City of Bones etc.)

But other than that I'm not really that picky, I just have to read something! :P|||This is going to sound weird but thank God for Twilight because since the vampire invasion it really has made me so much more open-minded to new genres and now I read almost anything (except horror/sci-fi) and it's good because I've realized how much I've missed out. I usually just read whatever looks/sounds cool.|||I read only what I am told to read, it used to be fun but school has made reading punishment|||I try to be open-minded when it comes to choosing new books.
