-I have a dog biscuit business, since 2007, and I'd like to expand it one day. I also want to become a professional author, and maybe a lawyer. I'm gonna be 16 soon. But I've already started looking at universities. Is it possible to do all 3 things or is it better to do one or do things? I'm also high-functioning autistic. I just sent my book off to a publisher at the end of June, and they are gonna come back to me in late August or early September. I really want to become a writer, its my passion but I'm worried I won't make enough money writing books. What do I do?I don't see why it shouldn't be possible for you to have your business and be a writer. If you're looking into universities you might have to take a step back from one of them for a while to become a lawyer, but if you're a freelance lawyer then you can make up your own hours, the same with being a writer and running your business. You just need to make sure neither of them slip and you're not taking on too much. You should take every opportunity that you can. Good Luck :)You can probably write as a side job (during your free time you can write!)
You can ask your mom or some close friends to help you manage your dog biscuit business.
If you want to be a lawyer, focus on being a lawyer!
I was quite surprised while reading the description! You have a bright future ahead of you no matter where you go (and at such a young age!) Hope you can actually succeed in all of your dreams! You just have to work hard!
More than likely you'll need a second career to support yourself along with writing. You could become a lawyer, unless the dog-biscuit business you apparently started when you were 11/12 gets big enough or maybe bought-out.
It depends on how much time you're willing to dedicate to all of these things.
It's probably somewhat challenging to "own" a writer...but if she's hot enough and cool with it, I say go for it!
do it all... be all that you can be
The best time to work on your writing is after you've completed university and gotten all you can from it. Particularly law. The course require a lot of reading and writing and then there will be your bar exam at the end. Your focus should be on that and perhaps continuing your Dog Biscuit Business if you can run it with basic efforts. Not too much stress because a Law course load can get hectic.
Most older authors do / did have other careers prior to publishing. In fact they use the knowledge of their careers to help them create realistic stories, and humanize characters. They in essence write what they know. They have resources too (friends who work with them) and can offer some directions as well as details. Not all authors are ex police officers but plenty know officers who they can go to to get help and assistance. Some authors are ex teachers, ex lawyers, ex doctors and ex nurses. Some still do those things occassionally to keep their stories fresh but mostly to keep their skills and licenses updated.
There is nothing with doing it all but don't expect that by 23 you'll be all those things. You must consider it may not happen until 33 or 43. But if you truly love it, the skills you acquire in business, law and writing won't disappear but should get better with age.
