Is it okay for a ten year old to be writing a novel?

-Hi. Do you think its okay for a ten year old to be writing a novel?Anyone at any age can write. However the more you practice and take courses the better your work will get over time. People may think since they've been writing since they were three they are genius. Truth is plenty of that work isn't good enough to be published. But those same people if they continued to work and continued to write and improve have probably begun to take the study of writing more seriously (or given up). Ideally the older you get the more experience in life you'll acquire in order to make your work more interesting, the more people you will meet to actually base characters off of, a way to color your work with realism, creativity, and depth that you don't have at ten.



At ten you have the feelings of a ten year old. You have the eyes of a ten year old. You are only as emotional as a ten year old. At twenty five you remember how it felt to be ten. You remember what it was like to have your first crush, your first love, your first dance, your first kiss. At thirty five you might remember that first crush with such fondness, as well as your first child, your marriage and getting your first career promotion. You see from ten you can only guess at being thirty five and thirty five you know what it was like to be ten and all the ages after that. So keep that in mind.

I apologize, I don't mean to seem angry or aggressive - but this is the sort of question I take joy in answering as I can answer it truthfully and with the utmost confidence (as I have displayed with the very first sentence).

Anyways: I answer this way, for in my mind anyone with the hopes and dreams of getting a message out to the world or of simply publishing a story (no matter the length) can, no matter the age or the physical appearance. (Or even the mental appearance - I mean, some of the world's greatest artists were perceived as mad!) Well, anyways, getting right to the point - yes, of course it's okay for a ten year old to be writing a novel. Perhaps it may be a little difficult for him or her at times, what with the problems of structuring the story or perhaps a missed concept or hole or case of writers block, but there is always going to be some sort of inspiration or help out there - they come numerously and in different forms. And as for the editing and publishing and such? I advise that one worry about that later, after one has been all over and done with the story. Some tips are to have a basic outline written out beforehand, like the main string of events (with the addition of perhaps some details in between); and to have an adult to help through writing - not with the story writing, as that would make it not your own, but with coaching you, helping you take it step by step in a slow and timely manner. (I suppose it's alright to have an adult help you with the story, but then that adult would have to have his or her name on the front cover of the novel as well). Be careful so that this ten year old does not become overwhelmed, and also see to it that he or she does not procrastinate - a good schedule would help. So, anyways, I strongly encourage that this ten year old of whom you speak DOES write this novel - anyone can write one.

P.S. Do not think it is so very unusual, as I know of an elementary school which promotes having the students write a novel - it is even a project for those who choose to! They write it periodically, day by day and month by month with a self-calculated amount of time.
It's okay for anyone to write a novel, selling it maybe problematic, but hey, the worst that can happen is you learn something more about being an author.
Are you kidding? My bff is ten and she writes novels! It doesn't matter how old you are, just as long as your passionate about it. :)
Never too young to start writing.
Age doesn't exist in the writing world.
It's fine for ANYONE, as long as you are passionate about it.
